H.E. Mme. Tong Xiaoling, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, Holds Award-Presenting Ceremony to Winners of Essay-Writing Competition Themed "China in My Eyes"

H.E. Mme. Tong Xiaoling, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, held on 25th October 2009 at her residence in Kg. Kiarong an award-presenting ceremony to the winners of the Chinese-Language Essay-Writing Competition themed "China in My Eyes". Present at the ceremony were over 30 people including competition winners, representatives from the Brunei Chinese Writers' Association (BCWA) and Chinese-language schools, and journalists etc.

H.E. Amb. Tong Addressed the Ceremony

H.E. Ambassador Tong first thanked all the participants' enthusiasm in the competition and expressed appreciation to the BCWA and local Chinese-language press for their support and cooperation pledged to the Chinese Embassy. Recalling the National Day Parade and Mass Pageant Celebrations just held in Tian'anmen Square, Beijing, on 1st October 2009, H.E. Ambassador Tong said that she was touched by Bruneian Chinese friends' deep sentiments to their country of origin and their steadfast commitment to promoting China-Brunei friendship.

H.E. Ambassador Tong, together with Mr. Wang Wentian, Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Chinese Embassy, then presented awards to the winners respectively.

In conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the competition was co-organized by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and the BCWA. Its objectives are to enhance the understanding of Bruneian Chinese toward China and promote the Chinese language teaching in Brunei. The essay-writing competition solicited more than 60 essays, and all the winners' works have been published in local Chinese-language newspapers United Daily News and See Hua Daily News, and broadcast in Radio Television Brunei's Pilihan FM (Mandarin).
